About GITAM University

GITAM (Gandhi Institute of Technology And Management) –started with the objective of setting up a world class centre of learning in technology, management and medicine in the picturesque port city of Visakhapatnam.

GITAM has set up six institutions over the last 28 years. All these institutions have made a mark in their respective disciplines although constrained by affiliating system.

Institute of Management was accredited by NAAC with “A” Grade. It was also ranked as 1st in Andhra Pradesh and 40th at all India level by Business World in its survey of 2007. All the efforts of management have culminated in the formation of GITAM University on 14th August 2007 with five institutions namely Institute of Technology, Institute Science, Institute of Management, Institute of International Business, Institute of Pharmacy.

We are happy to announce that we are starting our Hyderabad campus from the academic year 2009-10 with MBA, MCA and four B.Tech (CSE, ECE, EEE & IT) programmes.

Highlights of the University

Students from 14 states joined in GITAM University during the 2008-09 Academic Year.

We had strong relations with 120 recruiting agencies. Particularly GITAM signed MoUs with Tata Consultency Services (TCS) and academic MOU’s with HPCL, Intelli Group, U.K. and U.S. Universities.

Training and Placement division in each Institute, E-Learning Center, British English Certificate course for management students, Language Lab, Separate Hostel facility for boys and girls, Indoor stadium, Gym are additional advantages for students.

Our Institute of Pharmacy got ISO 9001-2000 certification.




Financial Assistance :

The University proposes to offer financial assistance to the deserving meritorious candidates as follows:

Merit Scholarships will be offered by way of tuition fee waiver for 100 top rankers of GAT-2009. While the top 10 rankers will get 100% tuition fee waiver for the 1st year, top 11 to 100 rankers will get 50% tuition fee waiver for the first year. The continuation of these scholarships for the subsequent years will depend upon their academic performance.

Merit Scholarships will be offered by way of tuition fee waiver for 10 top rankers of GAT- 2009. While the top 3 rankers will get 100% tuition fee waiver, top 04 to 10 rankers will get 50% tuition fee waiver for the first year. The continuation of these scholarships for the second year will depend upon their academic performance.

Merit–cum-Means Scholarships will be awarded to 5% of students in each department of the academic institutions of the University @ 2,000/- per month depending upon merit of the student and income of the parent.

Teaching Assistantships will be offered to M.Tech Students of second year depending upon the need and the availability of suitable candidates but subject to a maximum of three students in each department @ Rs. 5,000/- per month.

After GITAM has attained the Deemed University status, we have successfully completed admissions for two academic years i.e. 2007-08 and 2008-09.

We wish to inform you that admissions into various programmes offered by the University are carried out by the Directorate of Admissions. The admissions are based on the ranks secured in the ONLINE ENTRANCE TEST conducted by the university known as GITAM Admission Test (GAT) into different courses simultaneously in several centres all over India.

In this connection, we would like to draw your kind attention that the University has conducted its first Online Entrance Examination (GAT-2008) for admission into various courses for the academic year 2008-09.

Our first semester was started on 07-07-2008 and completed semester on 27-11-2008 followed by exams. Presently, our students are attending the second semester classes, as per the academic calendar.

GITAM Admission Test-2009:

We are now planning for admissions into various courses for the academic year 2009-10, much ahead of all other educational institutions in the country in general and in our state, in particular. We hope this will help the future students who we are going to admit to come out of the colleges with required qualifications to settle comfortably in their life before their friends acquire required qualifications studied at other educational institutions.
GAT-2009 will be conducted through online for admission into various UG and PG programs of Technology, Pharmacy and Management offered at Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad Campuses.

The online test will be of two hours duration. It will be based on the objective type questions with multiple choices and will be conducted at the following centres:

Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Delhi, Guntur, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kurnoool, Nagpur, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal

How to Apply:

Candidates can apply choosing one of the following methods.

1. Download the application online at WWW.gitam.edu. The filled-in application along with a DD for Rs1,000/-(Rs.600/- for female candidates), drawn in favour of GITAM University, Payable at Visakhapatnam-530 045, A.P.INDIA

2. Applications are also available throughout India at selected branches of Union Bank of India and Indian Bank (Details available on GITAM website)

3. Obtain the application by post from Director-Admissions by sending a request on plain paper giving the candidate’s name with complete mailing address, accompanied by a DD for Rs.1,100/-(Rs.700/- for female candidates) drawn in favour of GITAM University payable at Visakhapatnam from any scheduled Bank. Requests by post will be accepted only till 06th March 2009.

4. The GAT-2009 registration fee for female candidates is Rs.600/- (Rs.700/- by post) only instead of Rs.1,000/-. Further, the University will try its best to accommodate all female candidates at the test centre of their first preference.

About GAT-2009:
There will be an on-site orientation prior to the start of the online GAT test. If a candidate arrives after the onsite orientation begins, he/she will not be allowed to take the test. If candidates do not report on time, they are likely to miss some of the general instructions relating to the test. The test hall will be opened 30 minutes before the commencement of the test.

The candidate is expected to have basic familiarity with use of computers like use of keyboard and mouse operation. It is the responsibility of the candidate to acquire these skills before appearing for the test and the University cannot take any responsibility for the same.

The questions are generated from a large question bank and different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee is final and binding on the candidate.

The candidate must ensure that the computer allotted to him/her is switched on and any problem with the computer is to be intimated to the mentor immediately. All the questions will be in English language only. All questions will be of multiple choices.

Each question carries 3 marks. Each correct answer will be awarded 3 marks. One mark will be deducted from the score for each wrong answer. The unanswered questions will receive no marks.

On completion of the test, the computer will display the result in terms of number of total correct answers and wrong answers, with the score. The candidate can also check and print his score report at the GITAM website after the test is completed.

The test results will be announced within 10 days from the date of completion of GAT-2009.

Merit List for Admissions:
As explained earlier, a candidate who has appeared for GAT-2009 will be eligible for admission only if he / she gets the required minimum marks in the qualifying examination as per the eligibility criteria. Admissions will be purely on merit and by following the rule of reservation applicable to GITAM University. The merit position of the candidate for admission will be based on the score obtained by the candidate in GAT-2009

Direct Admission to Board Toppers:
First rank candidates of all the central and state boards in India for the year 2009 will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their GAT-2009 score as per the eligibility criteria mentioned above. However they have to submit application as prescribed.
